Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 Program provides rental assistance for qualifying participants toward housing in the private rental market.

The HCV Program is funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is administered locally by the St. Louis Housing Authority. Because there are more families who need rental assistance than there are funds available, SLHA uses a waiting list to administer the program to eligible families. Click here for more information on HCV program income requirements.

The HCV waitlist is currently closed and not accepting applications until further notice.

How it works

Families can use their vouchers to rent a house or apartment in the private market. A family issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding suitable housing where the owner agrees to rent under the HCV/Section 8 program. Through the HCV Program, SLHA pays a portion of eligible families’ rent each month directly to the property owner.
