Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), St. Louis Housing Authority offers public housing to low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
Households who qualify for assistance under this program are provided safe, stable rental opportunities in a variety of housing sizes, types, and locations. Approximately 2,790 individuals and families are currently living in SLHA housing.
The Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) waiting lists are closed until further notice. See below for SLHA’s Elderly Only public housing developments.

Do I Qualify for Public Housing?
All adult family members must meet the following federal guidelines and applicant screening criteria:
- Meet HUD requirements on citizenship or immigration status
- Meet the applicant selection criteria and complete a full application .
- Meet the screening requirements related to criminal activity and have accepted prior rental history
- Do not have an outstanding balance with SLHA or any other housing authority program
